A Worldwide Seal of Excellence has been awarded to the Frisco, Texas Convention & Visitors Bureau - accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program(DMAP). DMAP is an international accreditation program developed by the Washington, D.C. based Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI).

Currently there are a total of 93 accredited marketing destinations across the country with only two in the state of Texas who have attained this measure of excellence, the Austin CVB and the Frisco CVB.

Gordon Barr, Chairman of the Frisco CVB Board of Directors, says, “Achieving accreditation is an impressive feat for such a young organization. The CVB’s Executive Director, staff and the City of Frisco are committed to providing the highest level of service to our visitors and have achieved this through compliance with DMAP standards.”

DMAP accreditation standards cover a wide variety of topics including governance, finance, management, human resources, technology, visitor services, group services, sales, communications, membership, brand management, destination development, research/market intelligence, innovation and stakeholder relationships.

Frisco CVB  Executive Director, Marla Roe, responded, “We were thrilled to learn we have been accredited through the DMAP program!  We strive hard to provide a high level of return to our City, stakeholders and visitors to Frisco, and this accreditation validates that we are and have been doing just that.” The CVB will recertify their status in 2013.

The big economic news for housing this week is all about sales.

Housing sales and pending sales contracts are up, dramatically in some markets, like Frisco,  West Frisco, Plano and Mckinney and a rebounding real estate sector could soon start stimulating the broader economy.

Even Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress last week that essentially the worst is over, the housing market is stabilizing, and we’re heading out of recession in the second half of the year.

Pending home sales jumped by 6.7 percent in April. That was the third straight month of significant increases, and the highest pending sale total for any month in the past seven years. The flip side of that, of course, is that most of these sales were distressed — foreclosures or sales of bank-owned properties.

Meanwhile, low prices nationwide, combined with mortgage rates at near-record lows, have pushed the National Association of Realtors’ Affordability Index into record territory. So, if you are seriously considering getting off the sidelines - now that prices are back to pre-boom levels in some markets and sales are on the upswing, jump in sooner rather than later, if you want the lowest mortgage rates.

farmers_marketNestled in our “fastest growing city” is a quaint reminder of the old “curb markets,” a break from the hustle and bustle, some good ‘ole Texas folks and well, yes some fruits and vegetables.  The Frisco Noon Lions Club will present the Frisco Farmers Market for its third season.  The season will run from May 2nd through September 19th at the corner of Coleman and Frisco Square Blvd across from City Hall.  Every Saturday you will find local growers from 8am to 2pm or until sellout.

Those days of the dusty, roadside markets are a thing of the past in most cities.  But supporting our local farmers and merchants is still an age-old truth.  “Taking care of our own” takes on its true meaning when you walk among folks whose livelihood depends on what you might buy.     These folks can tell you where and how the produce was grown.  The produce has also not been trucked all over the country and thus is fresher and as a result healthier than what we can get in the grocery store.  The merchants can even throw in ways to prepare and store it.

Not only fruits and vegetables are available, folks who lean toward the creative side will be on hand with their unique craft and gift items.  Vendors with gourmet ingredients, pasta, sauces and specialty items will be represented.  There is truly something for everyone.

It’s not that far off your normal route no matter where you are going so stop by Opening Day May 2.  The Frisco Jazz Band will be playing and you can shop to your heart’s content. For more information and the list of venders go to http://www.friscofarmersmarket.org/.
